We’re open & offer delivery!
Leave a CommentAlthough certain businesses are closing once again, we’re fortunate to remain open with limited hours. You can visit us Friday to Sunday from 10 – 5. The # of masked people is limited at this time. Protocols like hand, counter & cart sanitizing are in place to keep everyone safe.
However, if you aren’t comfortable coming in, we still offer curbside service with advance notice. And right now we’re also offering Free Delivery within Ontario when you order 4 bottles or more online or by calling us at (905)263-2396. Store pick up is also an option. The coupon for free delivery will pop up automatically.
One more little bit of winery news… In case you haven’t heard, we have a new wine – Wild Pink! It’s made from an apple that is a child of the Pink Lady apple. The wine is crisp & clean with apricot & lemon notes in the finish. In terms of sweetness level, it’s what we call “Off Dry” with a slight perceived sweetness. We think that you are going to like this one!

In terms of orchard news, spring has definitely sprung with the warm weather. We’ll give you an update within a week or two but “so far so good”. Hope to connect soon!

It’s a wrap
Leave a CommentThe 2020 apple season is over for another year and what a year it was! During the summer, we anxiously watched while the berry growers maneuvered through the pandemic. We asked ourselves: “What sort of changes do we need to make with our pick your own apple system to keep everyone safe?” Some things didn’t need to change! People drive into the orchard rather than loading onto a wagon. With over 10,000 trees and 200 rows of trees spaced 15′ apart, distancing was no problem. What we hadn’t anticipated was the number of people who came out! However, it made complete sense. After being cooped up, people wanted to get out and do something fun but still safe. The fall tradition of apple picking lives on!
So, now that the apple season is a wrap, what’s happening at Archibald’s? We’ve moved onto another kind of wrap. Yes, I’m talking Christmas & Holiday gift wrapping. We’re busy creating gift baskets with everything from wine & sparkling non-alcoholic ciders to preserves, chocolate, munchies & more. We’ll have this year’s Holiday Selection up shortly on our Gift Baskets page.
This holiday season will look a little different but it’s definitely not on pause. Time to celebrate and count our blessings everyone!
Picking on Pause
Leave a CommentPicking is on “Pause” for a week while we wait for the late varieties of apples to mature, finish off & get their true flavour. We will reopen pick your own apples on Saturday, October 10th with Ambrosia, Ida Red, Mutsu & Red Delicious. No reservations are required. It’s first come, first served. There is a minimum purchase of one 1/2 bushel bag before entering the orchard. That’s 20 lb. & the cost is $40. We will remain open for apple picking on the Sunday & Holiday Monday provided that we still have apples! We recommend that you check this page for varieties & availability before coming out.
Looking for wine & ready picked apples? The Winery & Market remain open weekdays from 10 – 5 & weekends from 9 – 5.with wine, cider, baking, fresh cider & ready picked apples while they last. And don’t forget that we offer wine sampling on weekends outdoors from 11 – 4. Come visit & enjoy the fall before it slips away.
It’s Picking Time!
Leave a CommentPicking time is finally here and we couldn’t be more excited! We kicked things off this weekend with the Silken and Gala apples. Next on the list will be Honey Crisp and McIntosh starting September 19th. More varieties to follow! We will provide start dates as soon as we are sure the apples are ready. Pick Your Own will be much the same this year with a few extra precautions in place to help keep everyone safe. If you have not picked here before, here is a fast paced video showing how our system works: https://youtu.be/VnXSde5pWe8.
As well as our apples, we are happy to be offering our fresh baking and fresh cider again every weekend. Cider is pressed on a weekly basis and is available starting Friday. Baking is a definite on the weekend and by request during the week. If you haven’t yet tried our apple dumplings with caramel sauce you are in for a treat!
Wine tasting has moved outdoors this fall and is open from 11 – 4, weekends only. First come first served, 2 samples per person and as always, FREE!
We love being a part of your fall traditions new and old. Thank you for your continued support!
Apples Need Space
Leave a CommentApples need “social distance” too!
Even apples need to maintain personal space! Six inches between apples on the same branch is the rule of thumb. Pollination was very good this spring. Too good in some varieties. So, our big job in the orchard right now is thinning down the crop on many varieties. By removing the extra ones, it allows the remaining apples to reach their full potential in size & taste. We still need Mother Nature to give us good growing conditions. We’ve had more than enough sunshine. It’s time for some rain please!
The top job in the winery right now is getting wine & cider inventory ready for our busy season – the fall. Fred’s been busy getting the fruit that we don’t grow ourselves – like strawberries & cherries. Raspberries & black currants will be next on the harvest list. How lucky we are to be living in Ontario with all this fresh fruit!

Summer Time is Cider Time!
Speaking of fall, we will be open for Pick Your Own Apples!
When we will open for picking will be posted as we get closer to Labour Day, the usual time. However, it will depend on the growing season & maturity of the varieties. Picking will probably look a little different this year. Our system of driving into the orchard, numbered rows, one way, parking on the right, orchard monitors, etc… are all great for setting the stage to keep everyone safe. We’re gathering information on how the strawberry growers handled their pick your own season. We’ll also be reaching out to our local health department for advice. Bottom line – we will keep you posted!
Business hours & protocol right now!
We’re presently open Friday to Sunday from 10 – 5, 4 people at a time in the winery. Masks are required. There is no tasting at this time.
We are still doing curb side service for those who prefer it. And for a limited time, we are still offering Free Delivery when you order 4 or more bottles on wine and/or Hard Cider on line.
That’s it for now – except to say “Thanks so much for your support” & “Stay well”!
Canada Day Bonus
Leave a CommentBonus bottle, eh!
In the spirit of celebrating the birth of our great nation, we’re offering something very Canadian. When you purchase 6 bottles of wine or hard cider, you will receive a “bonus bottle” of our Canadian Maple dessert wine. It’s very decadent & very delicious! May we suggest pairing it with chocolate & nutty desserts. It’s also great poured over fresh strawberries, ice cream, butter tarts, pecan pie, Nanaimo bars (my favourite choice), pancakes… the possibilities are endless. In the summer time it’s best slightly chilled.
This Canadian Maple special runs from June 26 to July 5th & is for store purchases only. Not available through the on-line store.
We’ll be open on Canada Day – that’s Wednesday, July 1st – from 10 – 5. If you haven’t been here lately, here’s how we are presently operating. We’re able to accommodate 4 people at a time in the winery with social distancing in place for people outside of your “bubble”. Sanitizer is at the door & throughout the store. A plexiglass panel provides a barrier at checkout. Payment is by tapping or sanitized machine. And we are still offering curb side service if you like! Sorry but we are not yet able to offer tasting.
However you celebrate this Canada Day we respectfully say “take off, eh” & have a great day!
